Overtime rules in Bangladesh — common questions
What is the overtime rate in Bangladesh?+
Section 108 of the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 sets overtime at twice the ordinary rate of the basic wage. The ordinary hourly rate is commonly taken as basic salary ÷ 208 (8 hours × 26 working days).
How many overtime hours are allowed?+
Ordinary working hours are 8 per day and 48 per week. With overtime, total hours should not exceed 10 per day or 60 per week, and the yearly average should stay within 56 hours per week.
Is overtime calculated on gross or basic salary?+
On basic wage, not gross. Allowances such as house rent, medical and conveyance are excluded from the overtime base.
Do factories need overtime registers?+
