Provident fund in Bangladesh — common questions

How is provident fund calculated in Bangladesh?+

Both the employee and the employer typically contribute a fixed percentage of the basic salary each month — commonly 10% each — into the fund. The exact rate follows the company's PF trust rules.

When can an employee withdraw provident fund?+

Usually on resignation, retirement or separation, subject to the PF trust deed. Some funds allow partial withdrawal or loans after a minimum service period.

Is provident fund taxable in Bangladesh?+

Contributions to a recognized provident fund get tax rebate treatment under NBR rules, and the employer's contribution above certain limits can be taxable. Confirm with your tax adviser.

Does the employer contribution vest immediately?+

Not always. Many PF trusts vest the employer's share gradually — for example fully after 3–5 years of service. Check your company's PF policy.
